Ramen Arashi

Quick, delicious and won’t let you hungry!

Tonight, the whole family had Ramen Arashi for dinner.  We had noticed the restaurant since it opened up less than 2 years ago.  My son had tried it with friends, and since then he has been harassing us to go there.  After a few missed opportunity this week, we finally made it.

The Location

We decided to opt for take out because of all the restrictions in place.  It seems it’s a popular choice as I’ve seen many people pick up orders while I was waiting for mine.  The restaurant is conveniently located downtown, in front of the Canmore Civic centre therefore is easily accessible.  It’s in a small commercial building yet with plenty of parking just in front of the door.  Their sign is large and well done, with easy characters to read, therefore you can’t miss it.

When you get inside, the place is relatively small with a couple tables for dine-in.  At the moment of writing these lines, they are clearly applying all restrictions and protocols.  The kitchen is at the back and you can see many busy people that clearly seems to enjoy their job.  Indeed, it almost look like a kitchen party!  Despite what looked to me as a busy evening, my order of 5 bowls was ready in 12 minutes.

The Menu

Make sure you order from the right location as there is also a Ramen Arashi in Banff.  I like the simple and clear menu. I’ve ordered on site after browsing the website.  All meals have a picture and a clear description of the ingredients, including broth type, vegetables, meat and spicy level, therefore you know what you get.  Don’t be scare if you don’t eat spicy, there is plenty of options for you.  In fact, most items on the menu are not spicy at all.

There is also some appetizers and dessert, but honestly, unless you are sharing with someone, you will not need neither of those.  Portions of all meals are definitely generous.  Without a doubt, everybody, including my three teens, was full after finishing their plate.  For take out orders, you get 2 bowls as the broth is not mixed with the rest beforehand.  When you’re ready to eat, pour in the broth and let sit for a few minutes to let the noodle get smooth.

The Food

We had the Tantan Men, which has a peanut/sesame flavour. For this meal, you have the option of mild, spicy or extra spicy.  Mild is not spicy at all.  We also got the Tonkotsu Ramen and Miso Tonkotsu Ramen.  Although they sound like cousins they are very different.

For myself, I tried to be brave and took the Devils Arashi Ramen, which is the spiciest item on the menu.  However, my courage failed at the option of spicy level, that goes from 1 to 5.  I took a level 2 and I was pleased with my choice.  Indeed, I like spicy food and this was just fine to have an excellent meal with a kick in it, minus the sweat. Finally, we couldn’t decide on a winner as everybody voted their own meal the best of all.  That says it all, the food is excellent.

One last thing, there is section “to go Arashi” on the website.  It is a small grocery site that is available in Banff only.

In summary, Ramen Arashi is a great option for a quick, delicious, fast meal that will satiate your appetite, even the for the hungry teenagers.
