The best is that it takes you to 2 amazing small lakes with crystal clear water with amazing colors at the bottom. Colors are different throughout the day. As we mention, it is popular so we recommend early morning or end of day.
ReadmoreThis is the lake you see on so many postal card! It's far though, on highway 93 towards Jasper. Far, but worth it. Actually, the entire highway 93, also called Icefield Parkway, is recommended to do. Plan a whole day, a long day. Start early in the morning. If you just want to make it to Peyto Lake, plan 30 minutes passed Lake Louise.
ReadmoreMoraine Lake should be at the top of your list of places to visit. Yes, at the top, before Lake Louise! No worries, it is actually now a combo, as you need to take a shuttle to both. Moraine Lake has this iconic blue color with mountain background called the Valley of Ten Peaks. Hike up the Rock Pile for the best view. There is a well maintained path to get there, don't climb on the rocks to get to the top. Also there is a path along the lake that will take you to a small cascade. You can canoe on the lake. Fees apply, of course. Shuttle booking is highly recommended. Visiting Lake Louise and Moraine Lake - Banff National Park (canada.ca)
ReadmoreFor the purist, calling this a hike is a sin. Nevertheless, it is a great place to visit and a popular one. It is a short walk on a slow upward trail that takes you to two different falls on a well maintained path through a canyon. If you make it to Upper Fall, it is 2.5 km long one-way. As mentioned, it is very popular, meaning it is busy. We recommend doing in early morning or end of afternoon. Roam Transit has a bus stop at Johnston Canyon. Be careful, stay on the trail and don't get close to the water. Unfortunately, a few accidents happen every year at this site as people get off the trail intentionally.
